Prakash Joshi is a traditional Phad painter who is a descendant of a family that has painted Phads for the past six centruries! In recent times, the purpose of Phad scrolls has largely changed from being a visual backdrop for story-telling to decorative art for contemporary homes. He has expanded the subject of his work to include mythological legends, popular prayers and festivals. He has also miniaturised the traditional scroll format to make It suitable for modern homes.
He has received multiple awards for his work, including the National Award and UNESCO award and participated in several exhibitions across India as well as in Canada and other countries.
