Anrad Gallery is delighted to present Sacred Groves, a curated collection of folk and indigenous artworks from India that celebrates the deep spiritual connection between nature and traditional practices.
The exhibition features works by artists from diverse artistic traditions, including Venkat Shyam (Gond), Saroj Shyam (Gond), Jonnalgadda Niranjan (Kalamkari), Jonnalgadda Tejaswini (Kalamkari), Moti Karn (Madhubani), Jyoti Karn (Madhubani), Sanjay Chittara (Mata ni Pachedi), and Sushil Soni (Pichwai). Through their intricate and vibrant pieces, these artists reflect the profound reverence their communities hold for nature, portraying forests and wildlife as sacred entities deeply intertwined with the divine.
In many indigenous traditions, these landscapes are believed to be dwelling places of deities and ancestral spirits, forming the heart of India’s artistic and oral heritage, and Sacred Groves offers an evocative glimpse into this deep-rooted pantheism. Anrad Gallery, established in 2012, specializes in curating exemplary folk and indigenous Indian art from across the subcontinent. Located in London, its mission is to bridge the gap between master artisans and the global art community, providing a platform for showcasing their exceptional talents.
