Madhu Merugoju is one of a few remaining Cherial artists who still practice the craft as a full-time occupation. He pursued his love of art through university, and has continued his family’s legacy in the tradition of Cherial scroll painting.

 

He is the recipient of several awards, including the Telangana State Award, and has participated in exhibitions across India. More important, as one of the last few practitioners of his craft, he has conducted several workshops in schools across the country as well as trained artisans in the specific techniques and traditions of Cherial painting.
