Palm Leaf Etching from Odisha

This is one of the oldest art forms from Odisha, Eastern India that can be traced back to the advent of writing. The themes used in this art form are inspired by legends, myths and folklore. The finest examples of this art portray stories of the Gods and Goddesses of the Hindu pantheon.

The paintings are on dried, pre-treated strips of palm leaves stitched together to create a scroll. On this, the artist tells his story using an iron stylus with incredible skill and craftsmanship.
