Madhubani from Bihar

This form of art is from Bihar, North India and is one of the most popular forms of traditional art in the country. The paintings were originally made on the floors and walls of homes. The images have deep-rooted symbolism, and are drawn from nature and from scenes to mark special occasions and festivals.

Today the artists are creating them on hand-made paper using natural colours and resins. Typically no space is left empty and there is a profusion of flowers, animals and geometric patterns.
